ATLETICO DE MADRID: LAUDRUP SAYS NO, CLUB A REAL MESS

The Kobe Show

The Lakers beat the Knicks 126-117 but it was the Kobe Bryant show last night at the Garden. Kobe dropped 61 against the Knicks. An incredible performance! Kobe had the jumper going, the inside game and just about every shot seemed to fall. Kobe shot 61% from the field going 19-31 and went 20-20 from the charity stripe. Kobe broke Bernard King's record of 60 points at MSG. MJ scored the third most ever at the garden with 55 in his second comeback.

Kobe looked just like Jordan last night with his fadeaways, double clutch shots and dunks. Kobe is the closest thing that I have seen to MJ ! since he retired. The Lakers needed every bucket that Bryant scored and he delivered over and over. Kobe has that Mike like ability to score whenever he wants to score. Pau Gasol had a huge night as well with 31 points and 14 rebounds. Surprisingly the Knicks were the more balanced team last night with 6 players scoring in double figures and three players scoring 20 or more.

As I stated yesterday, with Bynum out of the lineup the Lakers are going to rely on Kobe to score more to win games. I didn't know he would begin with a 61 point outbreak. If the Lakers want to win the championship however Kobe will need more help. Lamar Odom and the bench will have to be more of a factor in big games.

This win makes the Lakers 3-0 on their current road trip. Next game: Wednesday night at Toronto.

Marco Melandri: Smile from Autopolis (Japan)

Tuesday, 11 November 2008

After the successful debut on the Kawasaki MotoGP test in Valencia, Marco Melandri appears to have put a terrible year with Ducati behind. It comes yesterday from the runway of Autopolis in Japan, where Macio is currently testing for private development of the motorcycle, a good news. It appears that Marco has already lowered the circuit record of improving the previous record belonged to John Hopkins.

The staff near Melandri said that between the pilo! t and the team "green" body would be just to find a good feeling with the technical side of the bike, a fundamental to work to obtain significant results.

Among those who work with Marco is Juan Martinez, the coach of suspensions in the past has worked with people like Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau.

We will see the results of development done in the box of Kawasaki, as the green team will be on the track at Phillip Island for a test session with Suzuki.

Evans: Sad to see Parreira go

Bafana Bafana left-back, Brett Evans, says the team must keep the 2010 goal in mind despite Carlos Alberto Parreira's resignation. Parreira looks set to be replaced by another Brazilian, Joel Santana, who's currently at Brazilian club, Flamengo. Evans says he enjoyed playing for Parreira and learnt a lot from the 'phenomenal' coach. He says it's sad because the players had built a strong bond with the Brazilian.

Wet Race Predicted for Montreal

Weather forecasters are predicting thunderstorms for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow through to Sunday with tempratures ranging between 26 and 29 degrees.

Even though it's likely to be a wet race, things will certainly be steamy as the top drivers slug it out for superiority in the world championship. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton is chasing is second consecutive win at Montreal while Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen needs another win to place him firmly on top of the standings.

The race will start at 18:30 South African time on Sunday.

Proteas happy with the 'workout'

South Africa's batsmen gained some valuable time in the middle and their bowlers enjoyed another useful work-out, as the tour match against Somerset ended in a draw yesterday. Neil McKenzie will have slept much better last night after clearing the ghosts of his first-innings, first ball duck with a composed 63, while the spinner, Paul Harris popped up to score an unbeaten 50. The bowlers were looking settled, and all said, it was a very useful 3 days. "I think we got everything we wanted out of the game," said South Africa's coach, Mickey Arthur. "In fact I don't think we could have scripted it better."
On paper then, it looks very rosy. But throw in the pressure cooker atmosphere of Lords, a very vocal home crowd, some 'big match nerves' and a few bad or unlucky umpiring calls against you, and the best laid plans can go down in flames. That's just what makes cricket...cricket.

Henderson Returns to Western Cape Cricket

The Nashua Cape Cobras today revealed that Claude Henderson will be returning to Western Cape Cricket. The slow left arm bowler and right hand batsman returns from a lengthy stint with English County Cricket side Leicestershire.

Henderson was born in Worcester and represented Boland before signing up with Western Province in 1998/99. He was then called up for the Proteas in 2001, playing his first game for South Africa against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, before joining Leicestershire in England as a Kolpak player. To date, Henderson holds a healthy first class career record with 654 wickets at an average of 31.57. His best bowling figures are 7 for 57 and has a handy 18.93 average with the bat, which includes thirteen fifties.

Nashua Cape Cobras coach, Shukri Conrad, said he's excited about the signing and said, "a player of Claude's experience and calibre is a huge asset for the Nashua Cape Cobras and I hope his experience will rub off on! some of the young Cobras spinners we are busy grooming. I am excited to see how others will learn from his abilities."

The Nashua Cape Cobras kick off their season in the Supersport Series with an away match against the Gestetner Diamond Eagles at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley on 2 October. Pre-season preparations start with a tour match against the Warriors in Oudtshoorn from 15-22 September.

Paralympic medal onslaught continues

Tomorrow the Paralympics come to and end after 11 days of enthralling viewing. Hilton Langenhoven has become a local hero. The athlete who hails from Somerset West has added a third gold medal to his medal tally when he won the 200m T13 title in 21.94 seconds.

Veteran Fanie Lombard continued to show his dominance at the Paralympics when he won the men's discus F42 final in 46.75m. Lombard has become one of the most prolific Paralympians. He has now won a total of eight gold medals in four Paralympics games.

South Africa can continue the medal haul later today. First up is Fanie Van der Merwe, he will be running in the Men's 200m - T37 Final. Ilse Hayes will take to the track in the Women's 100m - T13 Final A. Then Jonathan Ntutu will race after in the Men's 200m - T13 Final A and last on the track is none other than the Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius. He will take part in the Men's 400 - T44. Pistorius holds the world record in this ! event and it seems likely that he will get his hands in his third and final gold medal at the games. As he dominated in his heats and finished first.

Here is the schedule:
Athletics 03:00-16:15: Fanie van der Merwe (final - 11:17), Jonathan Ntutu (final - 13:28), Fanie Lombard (gold), Oscar Pistorius (final - 14:57), Ilse Hayes (final - 12:18)

Yes, I have Been Sleeping Under a Rock....

I'm back!

It's been five days since I've watched sport, read about sport or even played sport so I'm a bit vague on what's transpired over the past few days. All I'm relying on now is other journos' takes on the weekend's matches, but I have had some time to ingest the info and form my own opinions.

The Springboks kicked off their end-of-year tour to the UK in winning fashion, beating the Welsh 20 - 15 at the Millennium stadium in Cardiff. Now, many pundits and columnists have slammed the Boks for letting a 20 - 3 lead slip through their fingers in the final quarter but I say good on them for taking their foot off the gas a bit. The game was already won and there was no point in playing all out, risking injury in the first match on tour. This team still has to play two tough tests and we'd rather the team win them all with close margins than have one big win and two losses.

My beloved Manchester United played a very y! outhful looking Arsenal team in the English Premier League at the weekend and were thoroughly outplayed. It hurt watching the defending English and European champions get beaten 2 - 1 by a side who's average age is 18. Arsene Wenger's selections show he didn't plan on winning game and that the purpose of this match was to blood his youngsters, but what a pleasant surprise that must've been for old Wenger.

On the domestic front, Ajax Cape Town were given a hammering of note when they went down 4 - 0 to Golden Arrows last night. It was probably sweet revenge for Arrows who were eliminated from the Telkom Knockout by the Urban Warriors on Sunday night.

Hashim Amla continues to impress for the Proteas in the One-day Internationals and is a serious contender to take Herschelle Gibbs' place at the top of the order when South Africa head down-under for their series against Australia. Amla stood head and shoulders above everyone else in the batting stats, s! coring 175 runs in two innings at an average of 87.50. To put ! things i n perspective, he scored 76 more runs than Jacques Kallis who was the second highest run scorer in the short series. Sure it's against Bangladesh, put a performance like that can't just be overlooked.

SB Pro20 Launched!

The 2009 Standard Bank Pro20 Series was launched in Johannesburg today and it promises to be another thrilling edition, as Cricket South Africa's premier domestic twenty-over competition explodes into action on 21 January 2009, much to the delight of cricket fans country-wide.

This year's Standard Bank Pro20 Series has new-look stadium activations, and for the first time in the tournament's history, the 2009 series offers a change in format: the introduction of a best-of-three semi final round. "Home" and "a! way" semi final games, with a third decider if necessary, ensure that fans get a rocking addition to the business end of the series.

Kass Naidoo, CSA Commercial and Corporate Relations Manager, said: "There is no doubt that the Standard Bank Pro20 series has attracted new fans to the game, helping to drive Cricket South Africa's vision of making cricket a truly national sport of winners.

"Standard Bank's innovative approach to this format has been copied in many parts of the world, and we look forward to another thrilling edition this year, which is sure to be the best yet since the tournament was launched five years ago.

"According to research undertaken by BMI-Sport Info in their latest Junior SportTrack Report, cricket is the second most popular spectator sport amongst the youth and CSA is confident that cricket's popularity will continue to grow with the success of the Standard Bank Pro20."

Clement Motale, Director Group Spons! orships, Standard Bank, said: "The Pro20 series has grown enor! mously s ince our launch of the format in 2004 – it's incredible that this year on the Kaboom Tour 09 we are celebrating the sixth edition! The enormous success that we have seen over the last five years in Pro20 cricket has been built on a business model of constantly evolving the game, the stadium and broadcast experiences, and the many elements that make up the sportainment of Pro20.

"The 2009 series looks set to deliver, once again, the outstanding levels of contest we've seen in previous series. Standard Bank Pro20 cricket has always been the place to set sights on the emerging specialists in the twenty-over game.

"We look forward to welcoming back cricket lovers from around the country – their overwhelming support is the proof that that the Standard Bank Pro20 series remains a winning formula, from event to broadcast, to quality action packed cricket."

The sixth Standard Bank Pro20 Series kicks off on Wednesday, 21 January 2009, with the Chev! rolet Warriors hosting the Nashua Titans at Sahara Oval, St George's in Port Elizabeth. The match kicks off at 6pm.

The Standard Bank Pro20 series offers affordable sportainment for all age groups, with ticket prices starting at R20.

Santos get back to the drawing board

Santos Coach David Bright said Tuesday he will be working on his teams offensive errors when he gets back to the drawing board ahead of his side's next PSL game.

The People's team is in eleventh place after suffering yet another draw to Bloemfontein Celtic last Friday.

Their major short fall this season has been in their goal scoring department and they have not won since the 11th of March in all competitions.

Bright says his team is lacking the killer instinct.

"Santos! is just a team who are now playing without attacking, they (the team) are not pressurizing the opponents and that is something that is working against us."

Bright added his team need to work on putting pressure on the opposition.

"We only got two or three corner kicks in the first half with Celtic and we got the same amount in the second half. This shows we lack the punch and are not pressurizing other teams. This is something we have to work on until we get it right."

Formula One and the credit crunch

The trouble in the global economy has hit many institutions and businesses. Formula One is not immune to the financial down turn in the world. Here is an interesting article by Alan Baldwin of the International Herald Tribune (Global Edition of the New York Times) regarding Formula One and the credit crunch. For the sake of full information, below is the full article:

Formula One looked in fine fettle at Sunday's stunning night-time grand prix in Singapore but the worry lines are always more apparent in the cold light of day. Money is the lifeblood of the billion-dollar sport and, with the credit crunch biting deep into the global economy, those involved know they cannot continue to spend like there is no tomorrow. "Formula One is in rude good health...and I think that it can stay in great health provided that we take action," Williams team chief executive Adam Parr told Reuters. "Formula One is marketing itself very well in terms of establishing new races in key ! areas but we need to do more. "Costs have grown exponentially in the last 10 years and it's time to put an end to that."

International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Max Mosley warned in July that Formula One was "becoming unsustainable" and the global economic climate has only deteriorated since then. Honda-backed Super Aguri folded in May, leaving Formula One with 10 teams and no prospect of anyone new coming in. Some insiders fear others could also head for the exit unless changes are made. Toro Rosso, co-owned by Red Bull energy drink billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, have a guaranteed budget for 2009 but their future remains uncertain beyond that. Red Bull Technology currently design the cars for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing but in 2010 each team will be required to design and make their own, a huge burden for the smaller, Italy-based outfit. "I would struggle to carry on alone," Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger told Italy's Gazzetta dello Spo! rt last month. "I need the backing of a car manufacturer. Whic! h isn't there."

DWINDLING SALES
Red Bull use their two teams to promote and sell their product while Force India are bankrolled by aviation and drinks billionaire Vijay Mallya, who says he is in for the long haul. Williams, the only team without a manufacturer or billionaire behind them, reported losses of 21.4 million pounds for 2007 on Tuesday but said they were well-funded for the future. In a sport where sponsorship contracts are generally negotiated to run for three and sometimes five years, and spaced out to ensure they do not all expire at once, the former champions can expect to weather the immediate storm.

However big-spending manufacturer teams may be more vulnerable to the parent company's board looking at the bottom line and deciding enough is enough. "It's a lot of money that can be addressed with one swish of the red pen," said Parr. BMW, Fiat (Ferrari), Honda, Mercedes (McLaren), Renault and Toyota all either wholly or part own teams -- some! with budgets of more than 226 million pounds a year -- against a backdrop of dwindling sales and sinking share prices. Some, such as Toyota, have pumped billions of dollars into the sport with little to show for their investment. Honda, whose car promotes environmental awareness rather than any major external sponsor, have also spent hugely.

MORE PRESSURE
"Those teams that are very dependent on car manufacturers for funding and don't have commercial sponsors might be under more pressure," former Benetton and BAR team boss David Richards told Reuters. But there is unlikely to be any knee-jerk reaction. It (withdrawal) is such a high-profile decision to make." To try to bring down the costs, the teams have formed an association to work with the FIA and commercial rights holders. "I think it is absolutely urgent," Parr said of the need for cost-cutting. "Whatever measures we take must be in place for 2010. Anything beyond that is too late, both the teams and t! he FIA recognise that. "The car manufacturers could halve thei! r spendi ng in Formula One tomorrow," he added. "I know that because, guess what, I know what we are spending. Why does anyone have to spend more than Williams spend on going racing? If the board of another team says we want to stay in F1 because it's a fantastic platform for our business but we are only prepared to spend what Williams spends -- is that the end of the world? Some of these teams could save 100 or 200 million euros by doing that."

On the plus side, the money is pouring in from new venues such as Singapore and Abu Dhabi, which will make its debut in 2009, and there is no immediate sign of sponsors running for cover.
"I think we had 900 guests over the Singapore weekend. Our sponsors were enormously active," said Parr, who added that three or four partners had renewed or extended contracts in the last few weeks. "Businesses still have to achieve their key objective and Formula One is still a unique platform for doing that," he said.

"For a comp! any worth let's say 40 billion pounds, to invest 20 million a year in a Formula One partnership is not a major undertaking. It's significant but not major."

Agger - I Could Have Quit

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has revealed that he considered retiring during his injury nightmare.

The Denmark international underwent an operation on a back problem during pre-season and only returned to the Reds' bench for Sunday's defeat at Chelsea.

Agger's career has been disrupted by a number of fitness setbacks and the 24-year-old has revealed that he considered quitting during his most recent injury.

"My back was hurting so badly that I considered stopping playing," he told Jyllandsposten.

"I asked myself if it was worth continuing playing. When you can't even lift your own child out ! of bed, then something is terribly wrong."

Agger has been named in Denmark's squad for the World Cup qualifier with Sweden on Saturday, a selection which has earned criticism from Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

Saudis Deny Reds Deal

Saudi sports investor F6 claim George Gillett's talks with them were not about buying his stake in Liverpool.

Liverpool co-owner Gillett visited Riyadh this week to discuss possible investment opportunities with reports suggesting Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah could buy Gillett's 50 per cent stake in the English giants.

Gillett was in Riyadh mainly to discuss a project regarding the creation of Liverpool soccer academies around the region

And F6 deputy managing director Gassim Hamidaddin insists buying Gillett's share in the club was ! not on the agenda.

"That was the main purpose, and that's what happened during the visit. There were no talks on buying Liverpool," Hamidaddin told AFP.

Hamdaddin insisted Gillett's visit was aimed at building on the two sides' agreement to create the Liverpool academies in Saudi Arabia and northern Africa.

"Gillett visited three Saudi football clubs, and examined local facilities with Prince Faisal," added Hamdaddin.

Liverpool Boss Rafa Benitez Is A Survivor, Says Arsenal's Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Rafa Benitez will get over the problems that are continuing to overshadow Liverpool's victory over Manchester United.

The Reds' 2-0 Anfield win over their fierce rivals brought an end to a four-match losing streak and kept Benitez's side in the title race.

But as the turmoil behind the scenes goes on involving a potential buyout of American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, speculation over Benitez's future continues.

Ahead of the Carling Cup tie between Liverpool and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Wenger said: 'You would say for them with the environment they were in it was a vital win over United.

'I must say on the day they deserved to win because they dominated this game.

'I believe Rafa is handling the pressure very well. It's not always easy but I believe in this job you need to resist the stress and the press! ure because you cannot dream to go for a career in this job without coming into these kind of situations, so that's an absolute necessity to go through this kind of period and survive.'

Cincinnati Reds Could Host 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

1988, this was the last time the major league baseball all-star game was played in the queen city, Cincinnati. Reports have it that The Reds are pursuing an All-Star date for 2013.

What are the chances that the Reds win this bid? I say they're as good as they'll get as they have a great new ball park, plenty of hotels and a re-invigorated downtown. Also, the Banks project will be finished by this time. It also helps that they're plenty of things to do around town in the summer from Kings Island and Newpor! t on the Levee to Horse Racing and Casinos across the river. Can you imagine the home run derby in a home run happy ballpark? Your thoughts?

The Reds said the team's desire to host an All-Star Game is one reason it sought the Civil Rights Game against the Chicago White Sox at Great American Ball Park.

Henry Aaron, Muhammad Ali and Bill Cosby are scheduled to be in town that weekend to accept awards. President Obama has also been invited.

The game alternates between American League and National League cities every year. St. Louis is hosting this year. With Arizona getting the next National League date in 2011, Cincinnati's next three chances are 2013, 2015 and 2017.

California Dreaming?

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers
July 28, 2005, does that date mean anything to you? This was the last time that the Reds have defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in Chavez Ravine. 2005 (In case you didn't know that was also the year the Bengals won the AFC North Division!) So far this season the Reds are 0-5 against California. (0-3 against San Diego, 0-2 against the Dodgers so far)

Dave Duncan to become Reds Pitching Coach?

As most of you have probably heard by now the Cincinnati Reds did not renew the contract of pitching coach Dick Pole. The only vacancy on Dusty Baker's staff is currently the pitching coach. Some of you may not know that St. Louis Cardinals pitching Coach Dave Duncan has been unhappy with the organization for the past few months. Most believe Duncan is unhappy with how they handled his son, who was slow coming back from injury and eventually traded from St. Louis to Boston. There are a number of ties between current Reds CEO Bob Castellini and Reds GM Walt Jockety. Castellini was part owner of the Cardinals and Jockety was St. Louis GM. John Fay of the Enquirer has speculated that this could be the case and really I can see this as a likely scenario. If this does happen, I would be very excited to see what Duncan can do with this young Red's pitching staff. This would be a very positive move for the future of this ballclub.

Running Price is Right blog, Monday, 2/9

Let the fun begin. The first chick got her name called and took so long jumping up and down in the aisle that the second person whose name was called made it to bidder's row before her. The announcer even waited a while just giving her a chance to get down there, but she was too busy pulling her pants up and screaming they just gave up.

First game is Flip Flop. It was over in less than 30 seconds. That was unbelievable. Guy was going for two bikes and there were two amounts, "79" and "89" side by side. The price of the bikes was NOT $7989, but he could flip either or both of the numbers to make a new price. He went for $7998. Drew revealed the retail price and it was $9798. Game over. Just like that. Kind of sucks. I'd want to be up there for at least two minutes. This guy had like 30 seconds.

Second item up for bid is an electric range. No clue. Don't even want it. And we just had an awkward moment and a funny one within a minute of each other. First o! ff a woman got outbid by $1 for the second game in a row. And she lost because of it. So Drew goes, "Oh man, Ruth that's the second…" and then Ruth interrupts Drew on her microphone and goes, "Excuse me, Drew? Can you please call me Ruthie?"

I mean really? You're on the PIR and you have the balls to ask Drew to call you Ruthie? Who the hell do you think you are?

So the guy that outbid "Ruthie" goes up and tells Drew, "I want that car. Give me that car!" Then they open up the door and "IT'S A NEW CARRRRRR!" This guy obviously read my blog last week when I claimed they always give a car away by the second bidding. And now he's playing Hole-in-One. Drew just took a practice shot and lipped out. Little too much steam on it. But this guy is putting from the closest line because he just guessed the price of all six items. This guy is awesome. He's putting from less than a foot away and he is taking practice cuts. My dad just walked in and goes, "How can he m! iss, look at the size of the f*cking hole." The guy just put i! t in the center of the cup and won the car.

And we just came back from commercial and Drew was in the crowd with the guy that won the car. He forgot that the guy won an extra $500 for getting the price of all the grocery items right. He had to repeat it 3 times because the guy couldn't hear him, and once he realized what Drew was saying he jumped out of his seat and leapt around for a few seconds some more. These people are priceless.

"Ruthie" just had her vengeance. She was last to bid and outbid the highest win by $1. And she won. But I have to comment on the second woman who bid. The first bid was $440. She bid $445. Really? Just save yourself the trouble and bid $441. I don't understand what people are thinking. So "Ruthie" is going for a dinette set, guitar and LCD TV. She has to guess the item that costs the most. "Ruthie" announced she thought it was the dinette set, but that her friends said it was the LCD TV. I'm not sure why she's even debating this. ! It's clearly the LCD TV. It's like a 50", this isn't even close. If they can fit the dinette set on the same stage as a guitar and TV, the set obviously isn't a) that big and b) that nice. She decided to listen to her friends, thank god. So they're revealing the prices. The dinette set is $1099 and guitar is $1699. Drew just told her that if she'd listened to herself, she would've lost already. The TV is $2199 and "Ruthie" just won, but it was very undeserving. Onto the wheel…

David is first to go. He's the only person who didn't win so far. First spin was $.25. This is not David's day. He just spun $1.00 so he's over. What a miserable outing on the show. "Ruthie" is spinning now. She got $.40. She's spinning again. If she goes over this dude automatically wins. Nope. Oh jesus. She didn't even make it all the way around. She's spinning again. Barely made it around. Oh god. She got another $.55. She's at $.95. This is annoying. This chick is retarded and weak and ! she's dominating. So Harold is spinning and he just announced ! "My wife is pregnant and I'd like to give all my glory to God, he changed my life." In other words, you're a recovering drug addict. Drew quickly focused on the baby though, congratulating him and asking if it was his first. It's not, it's his second. The first one is probably a crack baby. Harold went over, "Ruthie" advances. Truly a sign of the Apocolypse.

Fourth item up for bid is a fooze ball table. The screaming chick from earlier? She just won. This is awful. She just turned it into an open mic session. She's giving shout out after shout out. And she has the biggest beak I've ever seen. Not only in terms of length, but the shear girth of this thing is tremendous. It actually goes up before sloping back down. It's got like levels. This is crazy. She is trying to win a trip to China, a wine cabinet and a toy car. This is crazy. There were nine numbers listed and she had to guess the price of each. The China trip was four consecutive numbers, the cabinet was three and ! the toy car was two. I called it right off the bat, but she went in a different direction. Then she went back and moved stuff around for an entire minute before settling with what she originally had. If you're gonna go through all that trouble and keep us waiting, at least make a freakin' change. Rightfully so, she was wrong, I was right. Take your beak back to your seat and wait for the wheel you bird.

Next item up for bid is a new laptop computer from Dell. I'm going with $1100. Wow, it was $1104. That's awesome. Jacob just won and he's up on stage screaming "USCCCCCCCC!!!" He just apologized to Drew. I think he realizes how obnoxious he is right now. And naturally, this loser is going for a new car. I like this game. That's-Too-Much. He has to find the price that is JUST over the actual price of the car. This guy is lost. Wow, he guessed that $19,552 was too much and he was about $2K under. That's tough. Maybe that'll shut him up.

Oh wow this last i! tem for bid is sick. An Xbox360 and PS3 with RockBand, GuitarH! ero and more. Wow Shirley is new to bidder's row and she went with $1,032. God. This bothers me. Second bid was $1400. Third bid was $1401. And Kira started jumping up and down right away and screamed out "$1402!!!" See that just bothers me. You're rubbing it in the face of the people next to you. I wanted nothing more than for her to lose. Okay I really hate this chick. She had to guess the price of a new spa. It was either $7213 or $8187. She was breathing heavy and jumping and yelled out Alkazam and won. Why do annoying, stupid people always seem to win. She'll probably win the wheel too. In fact I'm calling it. She's gonna win the wheel AND the showcase showdown. In fact I'll go a step further and say she'll spin $1.00 on the wheel and win both showcases. That's how much I hate this chick.

Alright Jacob is up first. He wanted to give his shout out before even spinning. Drew had to tell him to spin first and then he could say whatever he wanted. And we just found out h! e's probably gay. He gave a shout out to his family AND the girls from some sorority that he came with. He's definitely the gay friend. Then Andrea stepped up and spun so hard she wiped out. I was typing and looked up to find her picking herself up off the floor. My pick Kira just went over. Thank god. I was hoping I'd jink her.

Speaking of which, I'd like to give a shout out to my buddy Kevin. He's now lost 7 straight on Streak for Cash. He took John Rollins yesterday to win the Buick Invitational. The guy had a 3 stroke lead with 8 to play and lost. So he texted me and told me he was at six, and that the Utah Jazz were screwed because he took them last night AT Golden State. I immediately panicked because I had gotten two in a row but also took the Jazz. Then after thinking about it, I figured I'd stick with my pick because it seemed like a gimme. If you haven't seen the movie "The Cooler" yet, check it out, because that's what Kevin is right now. The Jazz got ! smoked by 20 and my streak is back at zero while Kevin sits at! 7 losse s in a row.

Back to PIR. First showcase is up! First item is a living room group with tables, lamps, rug and couches. An inversion table. Some stupid exercise machine. "Ruthie" is pretending to be excited. And then there's a sailboat. She looks blown away by all of this. The showcase sucks and I think she's going to bid on it. Oh wow I'm surprised she passed it. Even Drew was surprised. He said to her, "You seem really excited about this showcase." And Jacob just bid $23,000. And he already lost if "Ruthie" bids $1. He's definitely over. There's no way that thing is higher than $17,000. She's going for an evening gown, a six-day cruise and a 3-day trip to London. And $3,000 cash. I'd say $19,000, but again, I'd only bid $1. I'm sure Jacob is over. And "Ruthie" just asked, "So I need to add them ALL up?" Really? What else are you going to do? Oh my god. This is unbelievable. She's sounding it out with her friends over the microphone. That was really annoying. Espec! ially when someone started to tell her $75,000 and she said, "Oh you craaaazyyyy." She ended up bidding $17,000. I think she's better off with $1 but she's probably still going to win.

Actual retail price of "Ruthie's" showcase was $19,312. For the record, if I had bid my $19,000 I would win both showcases. Let that be known. Jacob is up. Actual retail price is $20,469. He's over, just like I said. Go back to your sorority, pal.

I just asked my dad what the odds were of him cheffing up an egg sandwich for me. He mumbled, "Umm, I don't know." Then proceeded to tell me there were "plenty of other things out here." In other words, he doesn't feel like cooking. He just came in and asked if I'd settle for scrambled. I'll take it. So I'm gonna take care of the toast. I'll see ya.

Keefe's Pick 3 for Week 3

Not out to a great start, but it's early. You got to get back on the bicycle and ride. Here we go...

Lions (+6.5) over Redskins
Picking the Lions following a 1-2 week? Yes, I'm doing it. They could snap their long losing streak this weekend. They're at home, and did you see the Skins last weekend? 9-7 over the Rams... the Rams. Maybe Calvin Johnson and the Lions lose this one, but they will cover the number... I hope.

Raiders (+1.5) over Broncos
I just refuse to believe that the Josh McDaniels, Kyle Orton led Broncos will get to 3-0 this year. They just can't. I actually like the Raiders... defense. They played San Diego tough, then beat the Chiefs. (How about 3 straight division games to start the year.) I think Denver will start to level out and do so soon. These home division games are huge, look for the Raider D to step up big this week.

Texans (-4) over JaguarsI love Houston, hate Jacksonville. The Texans were miserable in Week 1, but I'm going to chalk that up to a good Jets D that surprised me probably more than Houston. Jacksonville is awful, they got blitzed by Arizona at home last week. I don't think a trip to Texas is going to help them. MJD could have a strong weekend performance but I still see the Texans winning by at least a TD and getting to 2-1, making my pick of Houston as the division winner not seem as ridiculous.

Last Week: 1-2
Overall: 1-2

Real Madrid 3-0 Tenerife

Real Madrid continued their 100% start to the season after producing a classy second-half display to see off battling Tenerife.

Manuel Pellegrini's decision to introduce Kaka and Guti at the break proved decisive as Madrid put an uninspiring first-half performance behind them to take the spoils thanks to a Karim Benzema brace and a 25-yard strike from Kaka.

The victory means Madrid now boast five wins from five whilst promoted Tenerife, who hit the post in the seco! nd half and were unlucky to come up against some inspired goalkeeping by Iker Casillas, slipped to their third successive away loss.

In their previous two matches against Xerez and Villarreal, Madrid had taken the lead inside the opening 90 seconds thanks to individual efforts from Cristiano Ronaldo, but the home fans had to wait until almost 30 minutes to witness even a decent shot on goal tonight.

Ronaldo was once again the man who made something happen, and his half-blocked shot from the edge of the area fell kindly to Raul, whose first-time volley was stopped by Tenerife goalkeeper Sergio Aragoneses.

Aside from that though, and a looping deflected cross by Alejandro Alfaro that forced the back-pedalling Casillas a moment of concern before he pushed the ball away to safety, there was precious little for the supporters to get excited about in the opening period.

Madrid coach Pellegrini had clearly seen enough as well as he made two changes at t! he break, replacing Esteban Granero and Sergio Ramos with Kaka! and Gut i. The move reaped instant dividends as Madrid took the lead just minutes into the second half.

Kaka's corner was semi-cleared by the Tenerife defence but Xabi Alonso picked up possession and his curling ball back into the area was met by Benzema, whose header sneaked just inside the near post.

That goal not only broke the deadlock but also proved the catalyst for a hugely entertaining second half.

Within 10 minutes of that goal Tenerife had twice gone close, with Casillas tipping over a Roman Martinez effort and Nino seeing a lob go just wide, while at the other end Ronaldo was denied a superb solo goal by a brilliant save by Aragoneses.

More goals looked on the cards though, and Madrid's second duly arrived in the 58th minute and again it was Benzema.

Tenerife centre-back Manolo Martinez looked favourite to deal with a long hopeful punt forward, but Benzema managed to muscle him off the ball before coolly curling his shot past the helples! s Aragoneses.

Two minutes after that and the Frenchman was almost celebrating his hat-trick as his left-footed shot fizzed just wide of the far post.

The goalmouth action continued with Ronaldo bringing a parry out of Aragoneses, before the momentum suddenly shifted and Tenerife started laying siege to the Madrid goal.

Julian Omar was unfortunate to see his shot hit the post, while Casillas then produced fine saves to deny Alfaro and Nino.

The Spain number one saved his best for the 74th minute though as he made a remarkable double stop to first parry Alfaro's low drive and then somehow managed to deny Nino from the rebound.

Tenerife deserved to get on the scoresheet, but it would end up being Madrid who got the next goal with Kaka scoring a magnificent effort.

Raul's shot was blocked on the edge of the box but Tenerife had not escaped as Kaka picked up the loose ball before placing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net! to seal the win.

Dunhill Links is perfect stepping-stone for Open glory

The Dunhill Links is perfect preparation for next year's Open which will be played at St Andrews and a proving ground for future Open champions.

Here is a quiz question for you. Who was the last Englishman to beat Nick Faldo at an Open Championship held at St Andrews? Here are a couple of clues.

It was not Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose or Luke Donald.

Here is another clue. It was not Henry Cotton.

The answer is that there were five, led by the world famous Steve Bottomley, but that you have to go as far back ! as 1995 to find them. Not one of the modern generation of Englishmen could beat Sir Nick in either 2005 or 2000.

Not one of the previous generation could beat him in 1984 or 1990. Even in 1978 Peter Oosterhuis only pipped the 21 year-old Faldo by a shot.

So come on all you great English golfers out there, get your act together.

On Thursday the Dunhill Links begins its journey round Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews (twice) and it is perfect preparation for next year's Open which will be played at St Andrews. It is a proving ground for future Open champions.

Padraig Harrington will testify to that. He is the only man in the history of the Dunhill Links to win the Championship twice (in 2002 and 2006) and the second victory was the prelude to consecutive Open Championships.

Harrington was ready. He had learned the links.

The same should now be true of the English. There are just too many good! players to continue this quite feeble recent record at St ! Andrews Open Championships. In 2005 not one could make the top 10, although Poulter did at least manage to tie with Faldo for 11th.

But five years earlier in 2000 not a sole roast beef muncher made the Open's top 40. Eighteen Americans finished ahead of the top-placed Englishman who was, of course, Mr Faldo. It is time to end this road-hole of shame.

There are now 11 Englishmen in the world's top 100. Three of them – Westwood, Ross Fisher and Chris Wood – led at some stage of this year's Open Championship. Eight out of the 10 players at last week's winning Great Britain and Ireland team were English. Seven out of the 10 Walker Cup team were English.

All those stats are a tribute to Faldo's legacy and all the good work that has been going on in English golf for the past 25 years. But there should also be strength in numbers as the Americans have proved time and again over the years.

Thomas Bjorn, the captain of ! the Continental Europe, said when his team trailed in the Vivendi Trophy by seven points last Saturday evening: "I knew that when you get eight Englishmen together, they are going to be very tough and they are going to have a very good spirit going. They have a great understanding of each other."

The English have proved terrific team players in recent years. Westwood, Poulter, Donald, Casey, Rose, Oliver Wilson, David Howell have all made big contributions at the Ryder Cup. But it is time to get selfish. It is time to get me. It is time to get Tiger.

He is the man they will all have to beat at next year's Open. Woods just about owns St Andrews. He has won the previous two Open Championships by a collective margin of 13 shots. Woods is the man to beat and, as Harrington proved at Carnoustie, this week's Dunhill is not a bad place to get used to the idea.

Of course Woods is not in the field, but the man who wins a! t St Andrews on Sunday night can take that victory with him! into ne xt summer. Two Englishmen have won the Dunhill – Westwood in 2003 and Nick Dougherty in 2007 – and Ross Fisher lost in a play-off last year.

Both Westwood and Fisher have endorsed Harrington's form line by having good chances to win the Open. Paul Lawrie, Britain's last major champion, won the inaugural Dunhill Links. Colin Montgomerie finished second in the 2005 Open and went on to win the Dunhill that year.

The Dunhill is a good breeding ground and the English have enough of a chance this week. Blimey, there are about 40 of them in the field. It is time to look for strength in numbers, not safety in numbers. This week's champion has the game to win an Open.

Werder Bremen 2-0 Hoffenheim

Werder Bremen showed they are serious contenders for the Bundesliga crown by comfortably beating title hopefuls Hoffenheim.

After Hoffenheim missed an early penalty, Claudio Pizarro and Per Mertesacker scored to give Werder a 2-0 lead after just 22 minutes - and that was all the hosts would need.

Thomas Schaaf's Bremen extended their undefeated streak to 13 games domestically and internationally while improving to 18 points for fourth place.

Bremen keeper Ti! m Wiese also kept his sheet clean for the fifth straight game, pushing his scoreless streak to 619 minutes.

Hoffenheim fell to sixth place with 14 points after losing their second straight game following four consecutive victories.

Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick had to make a substitution after just 11 minutes, bringing in Sejad Salihovic for the injured Andreas Beck.

And the visitors had a great chance to jump ahead three minutes later with a penalty as Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese took downed Maicosuel.

Carlos Eduardo stepped up to the spot but Wiese stopped his shot to the right and Torsten Frings saved Eduardo's rebound shot at the line.

Werder took advantage of Hoffenheim's missed opportunity by grabbing the lead in the 18th minute from a corner.

Pizarro's header from the right side was too high at the far left post for Eduardo, who headed only into the upper netting.

Bremen doubled the advantage just four minutes later -! again on a dead ball. Mesut Ozil free-kick from the right sid! e went i nto the box where Mertesacker poked home a loose ball from five yards.

Werder nearly made it 3-0 in the 28th but Hoffenheim keeper Timo Hildebrand was able to stop Ozil's short after a fine pass from the right side by Marko Marin.

Wiese made two strong saves in the first half against Maicosuel in the 30th minute and Christian Eichner in the 42nd.

Hoffenheim refused to give up after the break and had some fine opportunities including Salihovic's superb free-kick into the upper netting with 18 minutes left.

Bremen however remained dominant but could not make it 3-0 despite Ozil's fine chance with 15 minutes to play.

Hull City 0 Portsmouth 0

The Premier League football match between Hull City and Portsmouth at the KC Stadium on Saturday Oct 24, 2009.

The Jimmy Bullard injury jinx struck again as Hull's relegation worries deepened here at the KC Stadium in this dire goalless draw that saw Phil Brown's side booed off at full-time.

The club-record £5-million signing, out since last January with knee trouble, missed out on a belated home debut in somewhat mysterious circumstances ahead! of a game that was described as the worst since Hull reached the Premier League last year.

Bullard had been identified as Hull's potential saviour by manager Phil Brown in the build-up to this game but he was nowhere to be seen having taken a knock in a reserves game at Wigan on Tuesday night.

How this game could have done with Bullard's vitality in this so-called relegation six-pointer because what the sides managed to served up breached the trades description act.

Thanks to a deep-seated anxiety and lack of competence this contest rarely reached the heights of being anything like a Premier League fixture.

Tommy Smith wasted a decent chance to become bottom-of-the-table Portsmouth striker to score this season early on following a mistake by Anthony Gardner (Hull's seventh skipper th! is season), racing clear only to drive a low angled drive w! ide.

Like Pompey, third-bottom Hull, without American striker Jozy Altidore who apologised via his Twitter account after being dropped for turning up late, lacked a cutting edge.

The nearest they came to seriously troubling David James during an insipid first half came when Dean Marney tested his luck from distance but his shot soared well over the crossbar.

Smith missed another chance to open his Portsmouth account in the 40th minute when the Hull defence was at sixes and sevens following Aruna Dindane's cross but he miskicked in embarrassing fashion.

Hull's woes increased after the half-time whistle as Boaz Myhill and Seji Olofinjana had to be separated by colleagues following a spat only to make up at the start of the second half.

Brown's side raised their game after the break but Portsmouth should have taken the lead on the hour but spurned two excellent chances.

First Dindane saw his shot pus! hed away by Myhill when he should have been far more clinical and then Hassan Yebda was denied by the Wales goalkeeper when he diverted Younes Kaboul's cross goalwards from close range.

That passage of play was a rare moment when this game rose above the mediocre although it was Portsmouth, watched by director of football Avram Grant, who looked more menacing.

In contrast, Hull fans turned on Brown, booing his decision to take off Stephen Hunt and then taunting him with a rendition of the 'You don't know what you're doing' chant.

Things went from bad to worse for Brown as Myhill was booked for fouling.

Stepanek sees off Gil in Vienna

Radek Stepanek had little trouble in disposing of Frederico Gil as he moved into the quarter-finals of the ATP Bank Austria Tennis Trophy.

Stepanek, the world number 14, dominated on his serve and took less than an hour and 10 minutes to claim a 6-2 6-3 victory.

Fifth seed Nicolas Almagro also made it through with a 6-4 6-4 win over Wayne Odesnik.

Odesnik served nine aces, one more than his opponent, but the Spaniard was far more powerful on his service game! .

Fourth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber was leading Victor Crivoi 6-2 3-0 after 34 minutes of play when his Romanian opponent retired with a right shoulder injury.

Third seed Gael Monfils, one behind Stepanek in the world rankings, moved into the second round after beating Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-5 6-4.

The 23-year-old won 79 per cent of service points and hit seven aces as he looks to clinch one of two remaining spots at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November.

Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, who lost to Mikhail Youzhny in his first ATP World Tour final at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, ousted eighth-seeded American John Isner 7-6 (7/4) 6-4 in just over 90 minutes.

Daniel Koellerer beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-1 6-2 while Dominik Hrbaty enjoyed a 6-3 6-4 win over Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.

Serena Williams shows her class to claim Sony Ericsson Championships title

For all the money that can be made from sales of tennis books - Andre Agassi's stories should sell a few copies of his snort-and-tell autobiography, and Serena Williams, the winner of the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships, flew overnight from Doha to London to promote her own memoir - actually going on court and playing the game can also top up your bank balance.

Williams received close to £1,000,000 for a week's work by the Persian Gulf, and she is never going to do that as an author - probably the only writer who earns that ki! nd of money in the space of seven days is JK Rowling.

Serena was a 6-2, 7-6 winner over her sister Venus, last season's champion, and as she was unbeaten during the group stages at the Khalifa Tennis Complex in the Qatari capital she earned the maximum £940,000, which is more than she received for winning this year's Wimbledon title.

Almost the only 'woops' moment for Serena on Sunday was off the court and after the final, when she was presented with a trophy for finishing the year as the world No 1 for the first time since 2002, and she dropped the bottom of the prize on to the floor.

On the purple concrete, points conceded on Serena's serve were about as rare as pedestrians in downtown Doha, where everybody drives. The younger of the sisters dropped just seven points on her delivery all match.

The most illuminating statistic in the desert was the fact that this was Serena's first non-! grand slam tournament victory since April last year, when s! he won a clay-court title in Charleston.

"It's nice to finally win a tournament other than a grand slam," she said. Since that Charleston tournament, she has won three grand slam titles, with victories at last season's US Open, and then this year's Australian Open and Wimbledon Championships.

The year-end tournament is the most important event after the slams, and even more lucrative than championships such as Wimbledon.

It's clear that, while Williams plays her best tennis at the biggest events, she does not have the same focus at the smaller ones. That was why Dinara Safina was able to hold the world No 1 ranking for long periods of the season - she was the anti-Serena of 2009, as she performed consistently well at the small and medium-sized tournaments, but failed to win any of the grand slams.

This tournament was supposed to be a close finish in the race to be year-end No 1, but Serena was guaranteed the posit! ion after Safina withdrew on Wednesday after just two games of her opening round-robin match.

Even so, Serena plainly wanted to show why the ranking computer regarded her as the alpha female of the courts, and she lost just one set all tournament, in her group match against Venus.

When they met for the second time in a week, Serena dominated the first set, and then won the second set by playing the best tennis in the tiebreak, finishing her match, and her tennis year, with an ace and then a fabulous forehand winner which flashed through the hard court.

This was just how Serena wanted to end the season; but there could be dramas ahead during the off-season, as she is waiting to hear what punishment, if any, she will receive after an investigation into her behaviour at the US Open, when she told a line-judge, in an outburst punctuated by the f-word, that she would shove a tennis ball down her throat.

Serena! could be banned from the first grand slam of next season, and! there i s also the possibility that she could be fined heavily, so it could be just as well that she earned so much money in the Middle East.

Sarà Brienza l'arma in più?

di Filippo Capurso
Fonte: reggiotv.it

UNITED POST - Che colore gradisce?
